Dancing With Your Community Stars

Based on the “Dancing with the Stars” television show, local community celebrities will be paired with an SUU Ballroom Dancer to compete in a friendly, family-oriented and fun spirited dance competition. The Center is excited to have Mayor Maile Wilson, Attorney At Law Justin Wayment, Iron County Assessor Cindy Bulloch, Cedar City Police Detective Mike Bleak, Cedar City Rotary Club President Dolly-Trujillo-Wearn, and Jesse Robinson Farmers Insurance, in the current community celebrity lineup. The Iron County Children’s Justice Center is a safe home-like facility where children who are victims of crime, from sexual, physical or emotional abuse, witness domestic violence or drug endangerment, can receive a forensic interview from Law Enforcement and Child Protective Services. The Center coordinates services for victims and their families, assisting them in receiving mental health and medical treatment, and victim advocacy. In Iron County alone in 2013, we served 191 child victims and 245 secondary victims. A multi-disciplinary team collaborates on each child’s case to minimize additional trauma and assist towards healing. All funds from your “Dancing with your Community Stars” event will assist the center in implementing a medical exam room on site.

Summer Games Begin in Cedar City 2014

Summer Games have begin, come out and join the excitement happening now in Cedar City.  Since 1986, aspiring athletes from throughout Utah have descended upon Cedar City to challenge themselves in 40 different sports in the Utah Summer Games.  Slated for the second and third week of June in Cedar City, Utah, the events are hosted by Southern Utah University, Iron County School District and the Cedar City Parks and Recreation Department.Providing an "Olympic" style experience for Utah athletes of all ages and skill levels, the highlight of the Summer Games is the Opening Ceremonies, complete with an athletes march, torch run, grand fireworks and entertainment--all in the Greek-themed Eccles Coliseum.

Almost 10,000 athletes participate. Athletes must be Utah residents to compete. Soccer is the largest of all Utah Summer Games sports with 3,300 athletes, followed by basketball (900), track & field (500) and gymnastics (250). There is the popular triathlon, fast pitch softball, mountain biking, water polo, power tumbling, 5K and 10K races and many more sports.

Please Come Welcome & Support Marine Veteran Rob Jones to Cedar City on Monday March 3rd at the Veterans Park 5pm.
Rob lost his legs when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in 2010.  Rob has since relearned how to ride a bicycle with prosthetic legs and he is now cycling across America to raise awareness and to pay it forward to the Veteran organizations that helped him during his recovery.  On October 14, 2013 Rob began his journey in Maine and his final destination is California. 
Rob cycles approximately 35 miles a day.  Please come and meet Rob at a reception where he will be recognized by US Senator Hatch and US Senator Lee.  Please join in helping to support this American hero when he visits Cedar City.

 Now called Frontier Homestead State Park as of 2009, formerly Iron Mission State Park.

Lots of pioneer information on how Cedar and area started in late 1800's. Very few hands-on stuff for young kids.  The first Tuesday of every month is Free.  There is Preschool story time - a short story about what pioneer kids did that time of year and an activity for the kids.  This might be most accurately described as a museum.
